Professor Blake Ives was Eugene J. and Ruth F. Constantin Distinguished Professor and department chair of Management Information Sciences at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. Prior to joining SMU, Professor Ives served as a Distinguished Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Information Management at Templeton College, Oxford University, where he continues to serve as an Associate Fellow of the College. In 1986-1987 Professor Ives held a Marvin Bower Faculty Fellowship at the Harvard Business School. Prior to his Fellowships at Oxford and Harvard, Professor Ives was a tenured faculty member at Dartmouth College. Professor Ives has been a visiting scholar at IBM's Scientific Center in Los Angeles and Queens University, Canada. Professor Ives has taught in executive education programs at Dartmouth College, the Graduate School of Business at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia, Templeton College, Oxford, England, and in The Executive MBA program at Southern Methodist University.
Professor Ives received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota in 1978. He has published over a dozen articles in the MIS Quarterly and has been designated as one of the first recipients of that journal's "Distinguished Scholar Awards". He currently serves as Senior Editor for Electronic Productions for Management Information Systems Quarterly and as Editor-in Chief for MISQ Discovery. He has served on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, DataBase, International Information Systems, Journal of Information Systems, and Business Forum. Professor Ives has also published in Communications of The ACM, Management Science, Decision Sciences, Information Strategy, Information Systems Research , The Academy of Management Executive, The IBM Systems Journal, DataBase and other journals. Much of this work has focused on the competitive use of information technology as have the many business case studies that he has developed for executive education programs. Professor Ives has long been associated with the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) including serving as a Doctoral Consortium Chair in 1990, General Conference Co-Chair in 1992, and, in 1993, as both Chair of the ICIS Executive Committee and Co-Chair of the Doctoral Dissertation Awards Competition. He currently chairs ISWorld Net, an attempt to develop a shared presence on the WorldWide Web. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Information Management (SIM) International, is chairperson of the membership committee of the Dallas Chapter of SIM, and serves on several other SIM committees both nationally and locally. At SMU, Professor Ives is a member of the Faculty Senate, Chair of The Executive MBA program, and Chair of the MIS Department. He played a leadership role in the conversion of SMU's MBA program from a one to a two year program. in 1991.
