Gerard P. Learmonth Sr. a.k.a. Jerry Jerry was hired as a founding member of the faculty in the first year of the CIS program, 1980, and turned out the lights at the end of the CIS program in 1988. In Charlottesville Virginia Jerry is a succesful e-entrepenuer who started and operates various enterprises in addition to serving as Academic Director The University of Virginia’s Executive Master’s Degree Program in Systems Engineering.

Broadband Network Services Incorporated began operations in 1994 as Emergent Strategies Incorporated, an Information Technology management consulting and executive education firm. In 1995, the firm launched its Internet Service Provider operation - ESInet - concentrating on the corporate market. In April 1998, Emergent Strategies changed its name to Broadband Network Services Incorporated to reflect its new scope of operations.

1988 - to present Based in Charlottesville Virginia doing teaching, corporate and educational consulting he started an internet service provider business, BNSI is now run by his son Colin.
